Bobcats offer running back

Texas State's recruitment of smaller, stealthier running backs hasn't ended and right now the Bobcats have the upper edge in getting a commitment from this Palestine star.

Running Back Ben Luckett, a 19-3A All-District Honorable Mention award winner this past season, hopes to make his college decision by the end of football season.

He has offers from Louisiana-Monroe and Texas State, both Sun Belt schools, but Texas State is standing out.

"Texas State is my first pick so far," Luckett said. "It is better and I like the surroundings."

The offer from the Bobcats came as a surprise to Luckett, who runs a 4.4 40. His current head coach, Coach Lance Angel, gave him the news.

"I got to practice last week and Coach Angel told me Texas State had called him with the offer," Luckett said. "They couldn't get a hold of me and called him. I was so surprised with the news."

Baylor University, University of Houston and UTSA have all shown interest in Luckett but have not offered.

Luckett spends some time at middle linebacker but is being recruited as a running back. His quick feet and patience are two of his biggest upsides.

"I'm looking for more of a family than a team," Luckett said.

The Bobcats wouldn't mind another family member either.
