Football gets 8th and 9th commits

Texas State is stacking up on the commitments this summer. The team got cornerback Clarence Guidry, who plays some running back in high school, and offensive lineman Tryston Mizerak yesterday.

Mizerak plays for North Garland High School and was named as the 2nd team All-District center last year. Mizerak is the second lineman to commit to the 'Cats this summer, along with Kannon Mackey. So what stood out to Mizerak about Texas State?

"All the coaches repeated it - you will graduate," Mizerak said. "The campus I really enjoyed and I felt like I fit in."

Other offers for the current center included Rice, Nevada, New Mexico State and Lamar. He is a three-star recruit, ranked as the 61st best center nationally.

Mizerak was recruited as a center but that the position could change. His 6'5", 293 lb frame makes him the third biggest lineman on the current Bobcat roster.

Guidry not only will play football, but baseball too for the Bobcats and will follow in the footsteps of Colby Targun, who also plays football and baseball for Texas State.

While most of Guidry's year at Pflugerville was spent at running back, Guidry was recruited as a corner, no stranger to playing the position.

"I used to start sophomore year at corner," Guidry said. "Last year I was back and forth but will start at corner this year. I'm just really looking forward to being at Texas State."

Texas State was the first to offer Guidry. UTSA, Oklahoma State and others placed offers.

"The coaches really got me fired up to play for them, like no other school," Guidry said.
