Bobcats get 11th and 12th

Former Bobcat tight end Chase Harper is now gone and Kris Peterson and Bradley Miller will be filling his shoes in 2013. But today, it was the Bobcat tight ends of the future that were the focus.

Cameron Knight (6'3", 250) and Gabe Schrade (6'2, 200) became the 11th and 12th commitments for Texas State Tuesday and the first two tight ends.

Knight and Schrade come from different backgrounds and ended up as Bobcats in different ways. Knight is a Texas man thru and thru while Schrade hails from Deland, Florida. Knight was pursued early while Schrade got the first call just two weeks ago.

"I love the hill country and it's a great place to be," Knight said. "I knew it was a good place and was really impressed with the facilities. Big university and a small town atmosphere - they're on their way up."

Once Schrade dug deeper into the Bobcats history and recent history in the FBS, he saw the vision for the future and believed too it would be a place.

"I feel like it's a great fit for me as a player, person and what I want to do with my future," Schrade said. "Texas State is on the rise and there's a lot of energy in San Marcos. The coaching staff has a goal. The pattern is all set out to be successful there and I wanted to jump on board and be a part of that."

A big reason why Schrade decided on the Bobcats was coach Dennis Franchione himself. He wants to learn from Fran to be the coach he is so he can one day make a legacy for himself off the field.

"I want to be a coach after I play and coach Franchione was a big role in me committing there," Schrade said. "He's a guy I can emulate. He does things the right way and does them well."

Knight had other offers from UTEP and Air Force. Schrade had multiple FCS offers and one from the Sun Belt's Western Kentucky and Conference-USA's Florida International.

"I fell in love with (Texas State)," Knight said. "I wanted to wait until after two-a-days but I had a feeling it was going to be Texas State all along."
