Turning On The "Stove"

The Bobcat Basketball Staff is out on the recruiting trail full force. With less than 2 months to go before the early signing period, Coach Kaspar and his staff visited this Louisiana target.

Johnathan Stove, a 6'4" 210 combo shooting guard/small forward, is a priority for the Bobcat Staff. Head Coach Danny Kaspar and Assistant Coach Terrance Rencher just did an in home visit with him earlier this week.

"The visit went very well," Stove said. "I have a great relationship with Coach Rencher. He's one of the closet coaches recruiting me. He's always giving me advice. I was able to talk with Coach Kaspar face to face and we're trying to set up an official visit in the near future."

Texas State isn't the only program pushing for Stove's commitment. The Rajun Cajun and University of New Orleans also did in home visits earlier in the week.

Currently Stove reports offers from: Sam Houston State, New Orleans, Southern University, Tennessee Chattanooga, Xavier University (LA), Louisiana Lafayette and Texas State.

The Bobcat Staff has been on Stove for quite some time. Finally getting to meet the head man was a welcomed thing and he got a really good sense of what the staff feels he can do at the next level.

"Coach Kaspar laid down the guidelines, how he runs the team and what role I would have when I get there," Stove said. "It was pretty good, he has a lot of years of experience."

Over the summer Stove has added nearly 15 solid pounds of muscle, now weighing in at 210lbs. The Coaching Staff likes his solid frame to go along with his athleticism. The Coaches feel that his frame is an advantage and could really help him to stepping on the floor early as a true freshman. The 'Cats see him as a 2/3, but with his solid ball handling ability, running some point forward isn't out of the equation.

Stove does say that as the signing period is nearing, he does have 4 schools that are starting to stand out.

"My list is ULL, UT Chattanooga, Texas State and New Orleans," Stove said. "All of them are the same. Louisiana Tech was my front runner before they had 2 guys commit at my position."

Johnathan is also trying to set up an official to Lafayette soon. Even if he takes his visits, Stove hasn't decided if he'll be signing during the early period. It's a process that he doesn't want to rush, and take his time with.
