Around The Sun Belt: Week 6

Conference play continues this week and will alter the standings surely come Sunday. Lets look at the rest of the Sun Belt and predict where Texas State will fall at the end of the weekend.

Body: Arkansas State
Record: 2-3 (1-0)

The Red Wolves are coming off of 2 straight road losses as they head home for Saturday's game against Idaho. The last two games Arkansas State has given up 72 points compared to their 26. The Vandals are traveling with their first win under their belt.

Georgia State
Record: 0-4

Well, there couldn't be a safer bet this week as Georgia State goes up against the best team in the country, literally. QB Ronnie Bell is only completing 45% of his passes (lowest in conference). Alabama will be tough on him, seeing that they are ranked 13th in total defense, and didn't let Ole Miss score a point last week. Alabama is favored by 55 points which is by far the biggest spread of the week.

UL Lafayette
Record: 2-2

There will be plenty more coverage of Lafayette this week on BI. The Bobcats travel to Louisiana Saturday. The Ragin Cajuns beat Akron by one possession last week, and put up nearly the same numbers as Texas State did against Wyoming. This will be the first conference match-up for both of these teams. A win for State could move them to the top of the conference.

UL Monroe
Record: 2-3

Coming off of a loss to Tulane by more than double their score, Monroe gets to forget about it and start conference play fresh. Western Kentucky is traveling after their first conference loss last week. Monroe is a home underdog as Western Kentucky will try to put a conference loss on Monroe's their schedule. Western Kentucky is a top 50 offense and favored by 6 1/2 points.

South Alabama
Record: 2-2 (1-0)

The Jaguars are sitting atop the Sunbelt Conference right now and face Troy Saturday afternoon. They barely lost last week in Tennessee but are still favored playing at Troy. South Alabama is scoring nearly 30 points a game and Troy will most likely have trouble stopping them as the Trojans defense is allowing 35 points a game.

Troy
Record: 2-3 (0-1)

Troy has lost their first conference game already, and aren't looking very good heading into their home game this week. They rank 16th in passing yards, averaging 320 yards per game. South Alabama only gives up 250 a game. Troy has thrown 5 picks thus far, and USA has picked off 7 with 6 different defenders. It will be interesting to see how their reliance of a passing game will clash with South Alabama's defense. A win for Troy could help move Texas State up in the conference rankings as well.

Western Kentucky
Record: 3-2 (0-1)

The Hilltopers are looking for their first conference win as well, and are favored to win this week on the road. They are ranked 26 in rushing offense, which should be a threat to Monroe who gives up nearly 200 yards on the ground per game. This will be one of the three conference games this week and will be interesting to see where all the Sun Belt teams rank after the weekend.
