Must Finish Strong, Battle Cry!

Sitting with an overall record of 6-3, 2-2 in Sun Belt play, the Bobcats are bowl eligible and looking to finish impressively in order to secure a bowl invite.

The best record Texas State could finish with is 9-3 and 5-2 in conference play. It's a difficult task, but not an impossible one of beating Arkansas State, WKU and Troy to close the season. Two of the final three games are on the road where the 'Cats are currently 2-2 away from San Marcos.

Winning out would ensure the 'Cats of either a 2nd or 3rd place conference finish with only ULL and ULM ahead of them. The Rajin' Cajun and ULM tangle in the season finale, so if Monroe suffers a set back and the 'Cats do win out, TXST would secure the 2nd spot in the conference standings.

The reason it's crucial to finish in the top 2 of the Sun Belt is because of the two guaranteed bowl tie-ins that the conference has: The Godaddy.com Bowl and New Orleans Bowl. If the 'Cats do not win out, a myriad of things will have to happen. There are currently 3 SBC schools already bowl eligible including the 'Cats: ULL and WKU. With Arkansas State, Troy and ULM all knocking on the door step with 5 wins a piece. The Sun Belt does serves as an alternate to the Little Ceasar's Pizza Bowl and Beef O'Brady's Bowl if their conference participants don't fill out. Basically, if the 'Cats can not win out, it's a version of Russian roulette and someone will get crossed off.

Bobcat faithful will have to hope that the NCAA does not reach it's 70 bowl eligible teams to fill all of it's bowl spots. Next, even if the 'Cats fall short in Jonesboro, they must impress and compete. A "W" solves that. Finally, an impressive draw to Bobcat Stadium against WKU on November 23rd would be ideal. Bowl officials not only look for winners, but winners that can draw fan attendance hoping those faithful will travel to a bowl destination.

On the season, TXST is averaging 18,300 in attendance. Not the best, but a tourist destination such as New Orleans wouldn't hurt attracting fans and the aura of Texas State's first ever FBS bowl appearance should generate enough excitement to get Bobcat fans to the gates.
