QB Commit Was Blown Away

Texas State couldn't have asked for a better recruiting weekend, picking up 4 commits all on Sunday. One of them was from a prep QB on the east coast. BI spoke with the future signal caller.

Connor White, a 6'5" 200lb QB from Fork Union Military Academy, came into his official visit with Texas State with a predetermined mindset that he wasn't going to be making any decisions about his college future.

After a weekend on campus, with nice weather and the hill country scenery setting in, White did an about face.

"I wasn't planning on committing on the spot. I was going to go home, talk to my parents, but it felt right. I knew that's where I wanted to go," said White.

Texas State was White's first official visit and last, subsequently. He was getting interest from from FCS and Ivy League schools, but in the end, the 'Cats just presented too much of an opportunity to pass up.

"I wanted to go somewhere in January. I came to campus and I loved it. I love the offense and the situation with not having many QB's, it's going to be competitive," said White.

White is originally from Georgia. He played on a football team that went 3-7 his senior year and the defense gave up an average of 51 points a game. His options were slim at best and he decided on a prep school instead of starting his eligibility clock and that's when he chose Fork Union.

Overall, White is a good athlete. In high school he was a 4 year Letterman for all 3 major sports, football, basketball and baseball. He's no Russell Wilson or Mike Vick with his feet, but he can make plays.

"I'm an athlete back there. I pitched for my baseball team so I know I'm accurate. I like to put the ball wherever I can on the field. I'm fast enough to get away from rushers. At Fork Union we had a backup do all the run plays, but that's what I like about TXST, they have a good amount of run plays in there. It looks like a fun offense," said White.

For those wondering, he has timed as fast a 4.65 in the 40. Connor will be on campus either the first or second week of January and be ready for Spring ball. He will be signing his LOI on Wednesday as a mid-year signee.
