The "Wright" Stuff

The battle of the trenches is where it all begins on the gridiron. Texas State already has 3 O-line commits for this class and is looking for one more big body on the interior to round it out.

It's getting closer and closer to crunch time for recruits all across the nation who have yet to make a decision on their college future. National Signing Day (NSD) is the first Wednesday in February and this year it falls on February 5th.

Willie Wright, a 6'3" 280lb Offensive Lineman from Cypress Ridge (Cy-Ridge) HS is one of those prospects that is still going through the process and Texas State is one of the programs at the top of his list.

"I talk with Coach Naivar a lot. He came on a house visit early in December. There are five programs that are pretty much in the mix and Texas State is one of them," said Wright.

Rounding out his top 5 are Tulsa, Fresno State, Houston, and Colorado State. He's already taken one official to Tulsa and did it the weekend of December 13th.

Wright doesn't have any specific ranking or order for the 5 schools that are standing out. For the Bobcats he likes the offense that Texas State runs and that they're looking at him as a guard. He's played guard for Cy-Ridge the last few years so it's a spot he's comfortable with.

During the season Willie did take an unofficial to campus and took in the teams win against Wyoming. Yes, the lightning delay game. Before the delay, he was able to take in the tailgating, see the facilities and weight room. He liked what the 'Cats had to offer and hasn't ruled out another visit before NSD.

"I could set up an official visit for Texas State, but nothing is set in stone," said Wright.

Look for him not to wait all the way until NSD for a commitment. It'll most likely come the last week of January and when he wraps up all of his visits.
