Another Tough Loss

With the score tied at 63 all with 3 minutes to go, the 'Cats just didn't have enough offense left to overtake Arkansas State. The bobcats fell 74-69 on Saturday evening at Strahan Coliseum.

The Bobcats once again had a close call with the opportunity to at least put the game into overtime if not come away with the win. However, the Red Wolves would outscore the 'Cats 11-6 down the stretch to preserve their 9th win of the season.

Texas State was led once again by senior forward Joel Wright who scored 22 points off the bench. Senior forward Reid Koenen also gave the Bobcats some needed punch in netting 16 points in a reserve role. He drilled 2 treys on the night.

Similar to the UALR game, Texas State won key battles: Rebounding (33-26), points in the paint (38-18) and had fewer turnovers (15-12). Where ASU was able to get the upper hand, was FG percentage, shooting 53% from the field for the game and they blistered the nets from deep going 14 of 22 from 3-point land. In the end, that was the difference.

Early on the 'Cats would lead 8-4, but the Red Wolves would respond with an 11-1 run and Texas State would not go back in front. At the break ASU lead 33-27. In the 2nd half, the Bobcats would outscore the Red Wolves, 42-41, but it wasn't enough to pull out the win.

Arkansas State would go up by as many as 13 in the 2nd half, but the 'Cats would claw their way back to eventually tie the game and set up some late minute drama for the second contest in a row.

Texas State is now 4-11 and 0-2 in Sun Belt play. The Bobcats have a week off until they travel to Louisiana, to take on UL-Monroe on January 11th.
