Defense Clamps Down

On the heels of three Bobcats scoring in double figures and a stifling defensive effort that held Louisiana-Monroe to only 9 points in the second half, Texas State secured the win, 61-36 on Saturday evening.

Senior forward Joel Wright returned to the starting lineup on Saturday and helped lead Texas State with 14 points and 10 boards, in route to their first Sun Belt Conference win of the season against ULM.

Things got off to a great start for the Bobcats, opening the game on a 7-0 run. ULM would respond and tighten up the contest as the half wore on. Near the 5 minute mark, Texas State would open things up a bit, by using three straight hoops to make it 31-20.

At the break, TXST would be up by eight, 35-27. No one would foresee the defensive effort about to take place in the second half by the 'Cats.

A different intensity and attitude emerged onto the court at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The Bobcats would hold the Warkhawks to only 3 field goals over the next 20 minutes. Texas State would only put up 19 shots in the second stanza, but didn't need much offense to pull away in a route.

Joining Wright in double figures was guard Wes Davis, who returned from injury, with 14 points and freshman forward Kavin Tilbury netted 10.

The Bobcats are now 5-11 (1-2) on the season and get one day in between tipping off with Louisiana-Lafayette and wrapping up their 2 game road trip. The Rajin Cajun come into the match-up with a 10-5 (1-1) record. Lafayette, just one week ago surrendered 103 points to these same Warhawks. Tip is set for 6pm.
