Recruiting Round Up
First, three commitments out of five uncommitted visitors this past weekend is a win. There's no two ways about it. Getting the commitments from Toni Pulu (DT), Mershad Dillon (DT) and Kian Schoenborn (OL) are huge. Three commitments and all in the trenches where the Bobcats need them. Texas State is in good position with two other targets who visited this weekend, but decided on not committing yet, Roosevelt Pearson (DE) and Willie Wright (OL). Both have other visits remaining, and BI has confirmed that if either or both decide to commit to Texas State, they will have spots for them. Speaking of spots remaining, as we've been saying for quite sometime now, Texas State is planning on signing over 25 recruits. Currently the class sits at 24 commits. Yesterday evening as BI first reported, the Coaching Staff decided to part ways with LB commit Tillman Johnson (McNeil HS). Coach Fran and his staff spoke with Johnson before he took an official visit to North Texas and they were very direct with him letting him know that if he took the visit to UNT, his offer would be rescinded. Johnson decided to visit and the staff parted ways with his commitment. That inevitably led to him committing to the Mean Green as first reported by the Denton Record Chronicle, after his visit on Sunday night. Another interesting scenario is D-line commit Cody Casey (Dawson HS). As our UTSA Scout site reported on Friday evening, Casey did take an official visit to the campus. He had been in contact with the Texas State staff before hand to let them know his plans. There's always an exception to the rule and unlike the Johnson situation, the Bobcat Staff was fine with him visiting. The reason is because Casey will be taking his official visit to San Marcos this coming weekend, 1/24. So Texas State will have every opportunity to solidify his pledge. Finally, the staff is still very high on OL target Willie Wright (Cy Ridge HS). He is slotted to visit Fresno State this coming weekend and the coaches feel that they have a very good shot at landing him. A high ranking source has confirmed to BI that a spot is being held for Wright in case he chooses the 'Cats. So with 24 commits already, how many more can Texas State take and the correct question is probably how many more WILL they take? Legit targets still uncommited are: Pearson, Alfonso Hampton (DT), Bryson Johnson (DT), and Willie Wright. The same source confirmed to BI that if all 4 committed to Texas State, they would have spots. Just over two weeks remain before NSD and Texas State still has a lot of action on the recruiting trail. We'll be sure to keep you up to date, just check back.
