Bobcats Sweep Wagner Series

Garrett Mattlage hits a huge grand slam to right field to take the lead for the Bobcats in the bottom of the eighth and the Bobcats go on to win 9-7.

The Bobcats trailed almost the whole night in the second game of the their double header versus the Wagner Seahawks. However anytime the Seahawks scored in inning, the Bobcats always responded with at least one run of their own keeping it close until it was their time to strike.

"I think this team is starting to develop a characteristic about them that is really good. said coach Harrison after the game. "I think it's more about their focus than anything, they just keep playing the game and find a way to win no matter what."

In the bottom of the eighth inning Garrett Mattlage stepped up to the plate, with two outs and the bases loaded, down by one run. Mattlage found him self at two and two, and fouled one off to keep him alive. The pitcher threw him one last fastball right down the middle and Mattlage dug in and blasted into right field and over the fence for the grand slam and the Bobcats first lead of the game.

"I knew he couldn't, walk me because bases are loaded and there is no where to put me, so i just sat and waited for him to make a mistake." Said Mattlage Saturday night after the big win.

Mattlage's game winning grand slam was the exclamation point on their sweep of Wagner. The two games where handled a little easier than the final game, the second of which being played earlier Saturday afternoon, in which the Bobcats won 8-5. Mattlage ended with five RBI's and rounded the bases three times himself.

After today's two wins Texas State advances to 9-2 overall. The Bobcats will play the last of an eight game home stretch against Valparaiso, fist pitch is at 6:30.
