Extra Innings Decides Games

Bobcats go up early, but cant maintain offense to keep the Crusaders from coming back and getting the win in the 10th inning.

Texas State so far this season has been very good, on their way to 9-2 record prior to Wednesday night's game, using their clutch hitting combined with some pretty good pitching. Valparaiso was the final game of an eight game home stretch and the first loss of the eight.

The Crusaders would use a clutch 2 out single in the top of the 7th to tie the game 2-2 and would then execute on a double by 2nd baseman Andy Burns in the top of the 10th. Left fielder Michael Morman would score all the way from first base.

There wasn't a single player on either team who had multiple hits in the game and because of that there was very little offense throughout the ballgame compared to the more recent slug fests we are used to for the Bobcats. Garret Mattlage, who was the hero this past Saturday, with his game winning Grand Slam over Wagner, struggled against Valpo, going 0 for 5 on the night and recording the two lone errors for the Bobcats.

"If you dwell on what you did for too long, it will pass you by, and if you dwell on what you did negative it will catch back up with you." Said coach Harrington after the game..""We still haven't played good baseball or what we are capable of doing."

Texas State will look to put this loss in the past and move on from here, with a tough three game series vs Washington State starting on Friday. The Bobcats have played very well aside from this last game and will look to rebound with a statement game vs the solid Pac-12 school. Texas State has failed to lose two consecutive games so far this year and will try and keep that from happening.

With this loss the Bobcats fall to 9-3 and will have a formidable test against the Cougars in Pullman, Washington, before returning home to face the Texas Longhorns this next Tuesday. Hopefully this will be the wake up call the Bobcats needed to keep them hungry in their hunt for the Sun Belt title.
