'Bama D-lineman Snags An Offer

The Bobcat Coaching Staff has hit the recruiting trail hard and fast. A slew of offers went out today and this Alabama defensive lineman picked up one of them.

A trio of high school teammates from Alabama power, Florence High School, picked up offers from Texas State on Monday. Malik Manciel, a 6'3" 258lb defensive lineman was one of them and he spoke with our staff about getting an offer from the Bobcats.

"I had spoken to Texas State earlier in the year right after my season, but it kind of caught me by surprise," said Manciel.

Texas State's offer now gives him four in the early going of recruiting. Southern Miss, UAB and Arkansas State have also offered. Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Missouri are other schools that have already reached out or are keeping tabs on him.

With his ties to the state of Alabama, Defensive Tackles Coach Kyle Tatum is recruiting Manciel and his teammates.

"He told me they like my style of play. My ability to make plays, play anywhere on the d-line and he wants to get me down there," said Manciel.

Because of his size, most schools are leaning towards recruiting him as a D-Tackle and that's what Malik expects, that he's more likely to line up on the inside than the outside. He's got a few other things he's looking for in a university.

"I'm just looking for a winning program that will take me to bowl games. Get an education and that my mother be satisfied with the college life," said Manciel.

Malik and his teammates go full pads starting April 28th. He'll continue to work through the spring and summer, and right now plans on making a decision sometime after his senior season.

He remains open to his current options and seems eager to learn more about the Bobcats.

"I know more about their football program, but I gotta do more research on everything they have to offer there."
