Serious Athlete At LB

There are very few linebackers in the state that have this prospects size and speed. This is a player who can be a major force at the next level and he's eyeing offer number one.

Matt McNew (Robinson HS) is a freak of an athlete coming out of the Inside Linebacker position, and is starting to stand out as a big prospect for the next level. In just his Junior Season he was named 1st team all district, District Defensive MVP, and All State, recording 135 tackles, six sacks, 15 TFL, 4 FF,and two interceptions during the season.

"I am a player that just likes to play fast and with a lot of emotion. I like to come out and hit as hard as I can and never let up," McNew said.

At 6'3 220 pounds and running a 4.54 40, McNew is quite a force coming from the middle of the defense, with the ability to play sideline to sideline and get in the backfield in a heartbeat. The scouts aren't fully convinced as of yet, and he has not yet received his first official offer, however schools such as UT, TCU, Arkansas, Iowa State, and Texas State are all keeping tabs on this player with sheer potential.

"Texas State seems to be showing the most interest out of all the schools so far, I think they are close to giving me my first offer. Coach (Kyle) Tatum and I are in constant contact by phone and email." said McNew.

Matt has been on two visits already to San Marcos, and seems to be entertaining the possibility of wearing maroon and gold in 2015. It is clear that Texas State would be a good fit for him not only as a player but in terms of what McNew is looking for in a program.

"I would prefer to go to a small town rather than a big city, but wherever I go it has to have a good conditioning program, I have to like the coaching staff, and I would like to play for a winning program," said McNew.

Matt says he will make his decision whenever he feels comfortable, and when he really knows where he wants to go. He has amazing potential that is evident on film and on paper, so offers are sure to be made soon. If it's Texas State, the Bobcats will be in prime position.

"I took a visit to Texas State and really thought they had a beautiful campus, and really like the stadium there it was really nice. The weight room and facilities there where really impressive."
