PG Putting in Work

The 2014 hoops class is signed, sealed and delivered. No rest for the weary as 2015 recruits hit the AAU season and this SA point guard is one to watch.

At the San Antonio Great American Shootout (GASO), two weekends ago, teams from the Alamo City, South/Central Texas, DFW and Houston all gathered for a non-stop weekend of AAU Hoops. One local prospect who cemented himself as a top talent, was PACT's Giovanni Collins (Wagner HS).

First glimpse of Collins and you see he's built like a linebacker at 6'1" 190lbs. He uses that strength and power in being able to get to the lane, or create separation with defenders and then use a nice jump shot that stretches from mid-range to the three point line.

"My pull up game is good. I need to work on my handles. I was always bigger and playing in the post, but at my high school is where I started playing guard," said Collins.

His play this spring has already led to interest or contact from Liberty, Weber State, Wichita State, Texas State, Abilene Christian and Rice. He's still waiting on his first offer.

One factor that could lead to offers soon than later, are the results of his SAT scores. He'll take the SAT's for the first time in June and if all goes well, bigger and better things maybe waiting in the clutches.

Texas State, with it's proximity to San Antonio and the rest of the South/Central Texas area, have made it clear that they will be focusing a great amount of recruiting within the Lone Star State for 2015. They haven't visited or had a one on one yet with Collins, but the staff did ask for his transcript to see how he's doing in the classroom.

A key note going forward, Collins did tell our BI Staff that he will no longer be suiting up for PACT, but has decided to run with D1Nation-Texas Ambassadors for the rest of the AAU season.
