LB Impresses Staff

Camp is an opportunity for players to raise their stock by impressing coaches. This LB did just that and earned himself a scholarship with his performance this past week at a Texas State camp.

Spencer Choka is a 6'1 218-pound LB who makes his living pursuing ball carriers and getting in the backfield to make plays using his 4.6 speed. Coach Brad Franchione approached Choka this Monday at camp and gave him the good news.

"Monday, Coach Franchione came over and asked if I would like to play for Texas State. I said yes i would, and right then and there he offered me a scholarship," said Choka.

Choka already has offers from Air Force, Stephen F Austin, and Sam Houston. Spencer says he has no favorites as of now but will take an unofficial visit sometime within a month to San Marcos, and will try to learn more about the Bobcats.

"I would like to take a tour of the campus and learn about what they have in the academics department. Also take a look and see how nice their facilities are, and just tour the town of San Marcos itself to see if its somewhere i could see myself for four years," said Choka

As a Junior Choka recorded 97 tackles, seven TFL's, four sacks, and four FF's. He was the standout of a sub par season season for the Rudder Rangers, going 0-10 on the year. With many returning starters and a new coach, Choka commented that he looks forward to a much better season in 2014, in which he will shift to MLB from the OLB position.

"I enjoy most just roaming around and taking ball carriers down, pass rushing when asked to, and running sideline to sideline. I can drop back in coverage and cover Tight Ends, and I never give up on the play," said Choka about his abilities on the field.
