A name that Bobcat fans need to know, resides about 45 minutes away at Lake Travis High School. It's 6'2" 195lb defensive back James Bailey. The Texas State staff targeted him a few weeks back when Secondary Coach Jason Washington visited his practice.
"It was after one of our practices. Coach Washington pulled me aside and said they wanted to offer. He's really a great guy."
Texas State joins a long list of suitors for Bailey. Iowa State, Fresno St, Stephen F. Austin, Nevada, New Mexico, Sam Houston State and North Texas have all offered. He's also camped recently with Texas Tech and Colorado, two other programs that have shown interest.
Our Scout.com database lists Bailey as an OLB and some programs have told him that they see him putting on the weight to move into the box. Texas State likes him at Free Safety and wants him patrolling the defensive backfield where he can use his size and length to be a ball-hawk. He also reports a 4.6 40 time..
With plenty of options, James already has a time-line of when he'll be making his decision. In the next two months, during two a day practices, he'll make his choice. Good news for BobcatNation, Texas State is in his Top 5 and he'll be visiting campus soon.
"My top 5 are Iowa State, Texas State, Fresno State, New Mexico, and Nevada. I want a team that can compete, that is very physical, and has family oriented coaches. I want to find a coaching staff that are father figures," said Bailey.
He followed that up by letting us know that he plans on visiting campus in the next week or so, he's just working on the details with the coaching staff and then he'll make the drive down I-35.
Last season as a junior he finished with 2 INT's, 4 sacks, and 80 total tackles, for the State Semifinalist Cavaliers.
