Practice Report 8.7.14

Practice #4 of camp and it was the second day in helmet and shoulder pads. BI was there and we took it in.

The theme of Fall camp seems to be tempo, to go along with the new offensive style being implemented. Eyes are always on the practice clock for every drill and everything is rush-rush to the next one. However, Head Coach Dennis Franchione does not want anyone to be confused on his new philosophy.

"The most important thing right now is efficiency and productivity. As we get farther along, we will go faster," said Coach Franchione, " I don't want to just go fast, we have to know who to block and know our reads, just going fast is not what is going to win games."

All practice there were many times where players wouldn't execute and the staff would let them hear about it. Players would shake it off, line up, do it again, and do it right. It is still early in Fall camp and there are many things that will need to be fine tuned, but harping on details and limiting mistakes is a huge priority for the Bobcats this Fall.

After losing many starters on the defensive line and losing Rosevelt Pearson to injury, there are shoes too fill, and the biggest question all offseason is what is going to happen with the defensive line? While there are many questions to be answered there are a few players who are stepping up and taking charge. After practice our staff caught up with both defensive line coaches to check on the status.

"We are progressing every practice, we lost three seniors. There are no proclaimed starters at this point and the job is wide open. We brought in several Juco guys and some freshman that all have shown bright spots at points," said Defensive Tackles Coach Kyle Tatum.

"Dallas McClarty has had himself a real good camp, he is a step above right now and has really made a statement early on in camp, said Coach Hudson, " Mike Oladairi is another player that has been doing really good and everywhere else ther are strong position battles and we will see how things change as camp goes along."
