Close To An Offer
The summer circuit can be a launching point for a basketball recruit and help him spring board into exposure and notoriety. Asa Cantwell' s play has definitely done that, and now he has 6 offers to show for it: New Hampshire, Hartford, Louisiana Monroe, Air Force, Houston Baptist, and Citadel, have all extended. One program that hasn't offered yet, but is high on Cantwell's list, is Texas State. The Bobcats have been heavily recruiting him as of late, and Head Coach Danny Kaspar even stopped by his school. "Coach Kaspar came down two weeks ago and he watched me practice during the period. He said he really enjoyed watching me. He came up to see me play defense. He said I played great defense," said Cantwell. Asa will be going up to San Marcos on Friday, just to work out and it's another chance for him to hone his game and show people his talent. Numbers are tight for the 2015 class, but the Bobcats are looking at guards and Cantwell makes it known that an offer would probably lead to a decision. "I'm hoping Texas State comes around and offers. If they do, they'd probably be my #1 choice. Coach Kaspar wants to make the right decision. I'm fine, working out everyday, getting the foot-speed right and doing everything in my power to get that offer from Texas State so I can commit," said Cantwell. The Bobcats are recruiting Asa as a shooting guard. Lead recruiter for Cantwell is Assistant Coach Jim Shaw. He's grown very fond of the staff and it's another thing that has him really liking the Bobcats. "I love Coach Kaspar and Coach Shaw, they're real cool people. They're going to be great as well. When you hear D1 basketball, you think big, and I think Texas State is big. They have a nice arena and just how close to home it is too. It's 45 minutes to 1 hour from my house."
