Targeting a Juco TE

The Bobcats have decided to target a juco tight end for this recruiting class and they've gone to the northeast to do so.

Over the summer, Julian Allen of Lackawanna Junior College (PA), felt he was on the verge of picking up an offer from Texas State. There was even talk of a visit. Time went on and contact died down, until a few weeks ago.

"Me and Coach English, we hadn't spoken for about two months, he reached out to me about two weeks ago. They finally decided that they wanted a juco tight end. Him and the Head Coach evaluated my mid season tape and they decided they wanted an experienced guy. He said I'm their number one guy on the board," said Allen.

Currently, Allen still considers himself a "Soft" commit to South Alabama, but along with his new offer from Texas State, the University of Texas and Mississippi State have shown strong interest recently.

"Right now, I have a lot of bigger programs that are reaching out to me, the Texas Longhorns are talking to me about going on a visit. Mississippi State is coming to watch me practice one week from today. If those two programs do offer, I will definitely visit and Texas State is my other visit for sure," said Allen.

Julian has been able to catch some of Texas State's games on the tube. It's been what he's seen from the tight end position that has him really intrigued in the Bobcats.

"That's huge, the way they use the tight end. To see the production, and they're not just using one, they're using a couple. Another thing is the business program, it's very good," said Allen.

He and his juco teammates are off to a 4-2 start. Stat-wise, he's logged 10 catches for 135 yards and 2 TD's.

Because of his schedule, visiting Texas State will have to wait until the end of his juco season. Depending on whether Lackawanna gets a bowl berth or not, he is aiming for late November to set up a trek to San Marcos.

"I told him (Coach English) I'm still interested, and we talked about setting up a visit. It'll have to be after the season, because we don't have any bye weeks," said Allen.

He'll be keeping his eye on that Thursday night match-up in late November with Arkansas State as a possible time to set up his official. It will be a nationally televised game on ESPNU and could set up for a late season Sun Belt showdown.

Other schools that have also offered Julian since our last update are Southern Mississippi and James Madison. His current offer count now sits at 11.
