Sun Belt Breakdown (Week 8)

Week 8 gets an early start in the Sun Belt with another top heavy match-up on Tuesday night. Here's our breakdown of the standings in the SBC.

Georgia Southern 5-2 (4-0)
Eagles are still top dawg in the SBC. After a convincing win over Idaho 47-24, Georgia southern heads to Georgia State this weekend, in what should be another win, as Georgia St. sits at the bottom of the pack in the Sun Belt at 0-4 in conference play.

Arkansas State 4-2 (2-0)
The Red Wolves dominated Georgia St. last week 52-10, to move to 2-0 in conference play. They travel to ULL Tuesday night in what could be the top match up in the conference, and may determine the contender for Georgia Southern and the Sun Belt Crown.

Louisiana Lafayette 3-3 (2-0)
Coming off of a convincing win on the road against Texas State, The Ragin' Cajuns seem to be headed in the right direction. Terrance Broadway has sharpened up his passing game, and his legs seem more mobile than ever, this may spell trouble for Ark. St. this week, as ULL plays host in another Tuesday night match-up.

South Alabama 4-2 (3-1)
The Jaguars survived a scare against the Bottom of the pack last week, barely beating Georgia St. 30-27, to move to 3-1 in conference play. This close win did not make them happy, and they have a week off to think about it. Expect to see a more polished team take the field after this bye week.

Louisiana Monroe 3-3 (2-1)
Monroe is coming off of 2 straight losses after starting the season 3-1. To be fair, the last one was to a much bigger and better Kentucky team by a score of 48-14. ULM plays host to TXST this week, both teams anxious for another win, and looking to right the ship. TXST lost to ULL at home last week, but don’t seem as beat up as Monroe, expect a close game, with the better conditioned team coming away with the "W."

Texas State 3-3 (1-1)
The Bobcats are hopefully ready for this game. They were beat readily by ULL at home last week, and are ready to show they belong in the top of this conference as they travel to Monroe. Linebacker David Mayo has been a constant tackling machine, and DB Craig Mager has controlled the deep field pretty well. QB Tyler Jones needs to come out firing on all cylinders, and it will take a total team effort for the 'Cats to claw their way to a victory.

Appalachian State 2-5 (1-2)
They are coming off of a 53-14 drubbing of Troy, and are looking to make some noise in the conference, they have their first win in Sun Belt play and look to continue that winning way, but they have to wait a week to do it. They have a bye this week before they welcome Georgia St. onto their field, and should produce another conference win for App St.

Troy 1-6 (1-2)
The Trojans who once where a formidable team week in and week out, are really struggling this season, and trying to turn things around. They travel to South Alabama this week to play their newest rival. Troy leads the series 2-0 after a thrilling 34-33 victory in 2013. South Alabama is the better team on paper this year but expect a close game between these southern Alabama teams, and don’t be surprised if Troy finds a way to win it.

New Mexico State 2-6 (1-3)
The Aggies gave up on the season it seems after last week’s loss to the previous winless Idaho. The team is struggling to find an identity right now, and have a week to find it, as they go into their bye week, before they play Texas State on November 1st.

Idaho 1-6 (1-4)
The Vandals are coming off their first win of he season last week, beating New Mexico St. 29-17. That win coming on the heels of a near upset loss to Texas State where the vandals where driving in the final minute, before the Bobcats intercepted a pass to end the game. Idaho has a bye this week, before they play host to Arkansas St. on Nov. 1st

Georgia St. 0-4 (1-6)
The Panthers continues to struggle to get off the ground. They are coming off of a tough loss to South Alabama last week 30-27, and have to welcome the top team in the conference, Georgia Southern to their home field this week. Don’t expect much from St. this week as they should fall to 1-7 overall, but… it is college football and anything can happen.
