Sun Belt Breakdown (Week 10)

With only a handful of conference games left for teams in the Sun Belt, things are tightening up as bids for bowl eligibility are on the line.

Georgia Southern 7-2 (6-0)
The Eagles continue to roll as they put a beat down on Troy, 42-10, on Saturday. They will take the #1 rushing attack in the nation averaging over 400 yards a game and look to move to 7-0 in conference play as they travel to San Marcos to take on the streaking Bobcats of Texas State.

Louisiana Lafayette 5-3 (4-0)
The Ragin' Cajuns won Saturday but not in the normal dominating fashion, beating South Alabama 19-9. They travel to Las Cruces to take on a New Mexico State team that stayed close to Texas State last week, losing 37-29 in the end.

Arkansas State 5-3 (3-1)
Plays host to South Alabama this week in what should be a close game. They are coming in with a head of steam after getting back on the winning track last week beating Idaho, 44-28. South Alabama lost a hard fought game to one of the top teams in the conference, and are hoping to show they belong at the top of the group.

Texas State 5-3 (3-1)
The Bobcats traveled to New Mexico last week and beat a feisty NMSU team, 37-29. The Cats have won 2 in a row, 4 of the last 5, and are playing host to the number one team in the conference. They are hoping to slow down that rushing attack of Georgia Southern, and find a way to come out with what would be the biggest win of the season for the Bobcats. A win would prove they are a team to deal with going forward.

South Alabama 5-3 (4-2)
Lost to ULL last week, 19-9, in a closer game then some expected. They held a potent offense to only 19 points, and are hoping that their stingy defense continues this week as they travel to Arkansas St., who is third in the conference and looking to make a late push in the championship and bowl picture.

Appalachian State 3-5 (2-2)
The Mountaineers put an absolute beat down on Georgia St. last week, 44-0, to improve to 2-2 in the conference and show they are not done fighting yet. They play host to Louisiana Monroe this week who has lost 4 in a row, but are coming off an impressive showing against a Texas A&M team, but falling short in a close one, 21-16.

Louisiana Monroe 3-5 (2-2)
Played one of the best teams they have played all year and almost pulled it out against Texas A&M. They come in this week still confident despite losing 4 in a row. They travel to the mountains to play Appalachian St and look to end their slide.

Troy 1-8 (1-4)
Continues to struggle this season. The once proud Trojan program has yet to impress this season in any game, and lost last week to the top team in the conference, 42-10. The Trojans Play host to the bottom dwellers of the SBC this week, and would love to get a "W" at home. Even if it's to restore a little pride for this season.

New Mexico State 2-7 (1-4)
After losing seven straight, last week to an improving Texas State team, the Aggies have another tough game as they play host to the second place team, ULL. Odds are not in the Aggies favor to end this 7 game losing streak, but its College football and anything can happen.

Idaho 1-7 (1-5)
The Vandals dropped to 1-5 in conference play, and 1-7 overall losing to Arkansas St., 44-28. They travel to California this week to play an out of conference game against a 4-4 San Diego State team, who lost to Nevada last week, 30-14. Can the Vandals pull it off? We will see.

Georgia St. 1-8 (0-6)
Still find themselves at the Bottom of the pile, and the pile is getting bigger. They lost last week to Appalachian St. 44-0, unable to slow down the mountaineers, and unable to get on the scoreboard at all. They fell to 0-6 in conference play, and travel to Troy this week, in hopes of picking up their first win of the season. That could be a tall order considering their 8 game losing streak. You gotta wonder, mentally, if the Panthers have not given up on the season.
