Sun Belt Breakdown (Week 11)

Only a few games remain in conference play and two programs have reached bowl eligibility. See how the entire conference shapes up.

Georgia Southern 8-2 (7-0)
The Eagles continued their streak Saturday night with a win at Texas State, 28-25. TXST gave them all they could handle and exposed a few weaknesses in the Eagles flight pattern. Georgia southern goes to Annapolis this week to play a tough and gritty Navy team, who gave Notre Dame all they could handle a couple weeks ago. This should be a great game, and will really show where this Eagle team is.

Louisiana Lafayette 6-3 (5-0)
The Ragin' Cajuns won Saturday and got back to their dominating fashion, beating New Mexico State, 44-16. They travel in state to take on rival ULM this week, in "The Battle on the Bayou." Winner of this game claims the Wooden Boot Trophy. Expect a hard fought game by both teams, but ULL should be favored coming in.

Arkansas State 6-3 (4-1)
They destroyed South Alabama last week 45-10, and improved to 4-1 in conference play. They welcome Appalachian st. this week to their home turf, and look to walk away with a win over the 4-5 Mountaineers.

Texas State 5-4 (3-2)
Texas State almost repeated their comeback win over Georgia Southern like they did in their first ever meeting, trailing by 18 points, to claw within 3 near the end. Two Costly turnovers dashed the Cats hopes of a huge underdog win at home Saturday. However, you have to think the Cats are poised to do big things after seeing their defense and offense clicking last week. If they continue to roll, the Bobcats could come away with a win over South Alabama in Mobile.

Appalachian St. 4-5 (3-2)
The Mountaineers managed a win over ULM last week, edging them out, 31-29. They Travel to Arkansas to take on a top team in the conference in Arkansas St. App. St. sits in the middle of the pack right now, and this game plays huge dividends in where they finish the season. They will be the underdogs in this one, but it's a role they are used to this year.

South Alabama 5-4 (3-3)
USA was beaten badly by Arkansas St. last week and might still be reeling from it. They need to be ready for a Texas St team fighting for bowl eligibility. Expect the Jags to come in fighting on their home field, in what should be another Sun Belt knock down, drag'em out type of game.

Louisiana Monroe 3-6 (2-3)
After almost upsetting Texas A&M 2 weeks ago, the Warhawks looked good, but not good enough, falling in another close contest, 31-29, to App. St. They would love to get back on the winning side again, but it may not happen this week, as they play host to ULL, in the Battle on the Bayou.

Troy 2-8 (2-4)
The Trojans managed a second win on the season beating Georgia St., 45-21 last Saturday. They would love to continue in the win column as they travel to Idaho to take on the 1-8 Vandals. This won’t be a highly anticipated game since both teams sit towards the bottom of the conference, but it will feel good for either team to get another "W".

Idaho 1-8 (1-5)
Traveled out of conference last week and lost, 35-21 to San Diego State. It wasn't a superb effort, but they did show some improvement and poise against a much better team. They welcome Troy into their home field this week and would love to get the win, and put a 2nd "W" on the books.

New Mexico St. 2-8 (1-5)
The Aggies were thoroughly beaten by a far superior ULL team last week, and are happy to have the bye week to prepare for ULM two weeks from now. Louisiana Monroe plays a huge rivalry game this week, and may not see New Mexico St. coming the week after. At least that is the hopes of the 2-8 Aggies.

Georgia St. 1-9 ( 0-7)
They continue to struggle on the year after falling to a struggling Troy team, 45-21. Things do not look good for Georgia St. this week as they travel to Clemson to take on the Tigers. Don’t expect much of a game in this one, as the Tigers should roll to an impressive victory. The only positive GSU has, is adding some funding to the program after traveling to Columbia.
