Players Of The Game: South Alabama

These standouts did all they could to try and muster the Bobcats to a win. We have our "Players of the Game" from Saturdays loss.

Offense: WR Brandon Smith (Jr.)

He finished the game with five receptions for 86 yards and was key in keeping drives alive for the Bobcats. Smith has had his best two outings of the season in consecutive weeks and earns the honors for the offense after averaging just over 17 yards a catch.

Smith had two big plays late in the game that kept things alive for the Bobcats. First he had a big catch on third and 17 that went for 21 yards and kept the drive alive for TXST. He would follow that up with a critical 21 yard grab on fourth and seven to keep hope alive for Texas State in their attempted rally.

Defense: LB David Mayo (Sr.)

He continues his stellar senior campaign recording 12 tackles with both a forced fumble and a fumble recovery on consecutive drives in the first half. Whether run or pass, Mayo was always near to make a play. Mayo and the defense were the main reason Texas State was able to mount a 17-7 lead before USA would get to work.
