Bowl Outlook (Updated 12.3.14)
In the span of a few hours Tuesday evening, Bobcat fans learned that South Alabama and Arkansas State would get a bowl invite before Texas State would. The Jaguars are headed to the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl and Arkansas State, for the fourth year in row, will be playing in the GoDaddy.com Bowl. ULL is a lock for the New Orleans Bowl. So what options are left for the Bobcats? BobcatIllustrated broke the news Tuesday evening that the Ticket City Cactus Bowl did make contact with Texas State Athletic Director Larry Teis on Tuesday gauge interest. We were not able to get any further details but their is mutual interest on both sides. The Cactus Bowl was previously known as the Insight.com Bowl and Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl. It usually pits the PAC12 vs the Big XII. However, the Big XII is in danger of falling 1-2 teams short for their guaranteed bowl tie-ins, leaving a possible route for Texas State to head to Tempe. Previously, BI also had the scoop on the Armed Forces Bowl having a representative in attendance to see Texas State run over Arkansas State in their recent Thursday night National TV appearance. No doubt attendance could have been better for the Bobcat faithful, but overall the rep was impressed with Texas State's showing. Head Coach Dennis Franchione has ties to TCU, where the game is played. A direct source was not willing to confirm or deny any speculation of whether the Bowl is set to invite Texas State. All of this has raised the curiosity that much more of the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl being a possibility. As of Wednesday morning, BobcatIllustrated has not directly heard any link to two other bowl games being floated around for Texas State, the Heart of Dallas Bowl and the Military Bowl. We'll be tracking this situation by the hour, so be sure to stay tuned in for the latest surrounding Texas State's chances on getting a bowl bid.
