MWC Commit Sets Visit

Texas State would like to add at least one Juco Linebacker for the 2015 cycle. This current Mountain West commit recently got offered and is set to visit TXST next month.

On Monday, Deshon Mayes was informed he had an offer from Texas State. Co-Offensive Coordinator Jim Schultz met with him and let him know that he was a target. The Coaching Staff is still going through the recruiting process with him, but would like to see him in the maroon and gold.

Earlier in the season Mayes committed to Colorado State but with the coaching change, it's definitely kept his decision in limbo.

"That kind of changed my mind a little bit. I'm still definitely talking to CSU, but I'm open to the possibility of changing. I'm definitely trying to weigh my options," said Mayes.

Deshon has not taken any official visits yet. The 6'3" 210lb OLB from Glendale JC (AZ) does have two trips set for the month of January. He'll be visiting Fort Collins the weekend of January 16th, and then Texas State the following weekend, January 23rd. Originally from Denver, Colorado, Mayes is very familiar with CSU, but the uncertainty with the Ram's Coaching Staff is playing a big part in him weighing all of his options.

"A lot of it comes down to the CSU Coaching Staff. I met Coach Schultz in the spring, but they knew I was committed to CSU. I didn't hear much from him until Coach McElwain left, but Texas State is a serious option," said Mayes.

Out of high school Mayes was a non-qualifier so he will be at Glendale until May when he graduates. Once he signs and transfers, he will have 3 years to play 2.
