Juco LB Makes The Call

On Thursday night, Texas State picked up a commitment from one of the top players left on their board at a position of need. We have the exclusive on his decision.

Teron Fitzgerald is a 6'3 225-pound LB out of Copiah-Lincoln JC, who brings speed off the edge from the LB position and can even drop back and play the hybrid safety position if needed. Fitzgerald makes commitment number 20 for the Bobcats, after notifying Defensive Tackles Coach Kyle Tatum of his decision in person during his home visit Thursday.

"I had originally planned on announcing my decision this weekend, but I wanted to go ahead and make it official while Coach Tatum was standing there in front of me. I was already really high on Texas State before, but his visit really sealed the deal for me," said Fitzgerald.

Teron chose the Bobcats over Middle Tennessee State, North Texas, Central Arkansas, Jackson State, Memphis, and West Alabama. After announcing his decision he'll board a flight to Texas first thing Friday morning to go ahead and familiarize himself with San Marcos before he moves down this spring.

"I had been in contact with Texas State since the spring, but they really came on me heavy as soon as the season ended. I really loved the fact that the coaches stayed faithful to me, they called me almost every day, and from everything I've seen I really love the environment at Texas State," said Fitzgerald.

With Fitzgerald's 4.5 speed, size, and versatility, he brings an element that will be a welcomed addition into Defensive Coordinator, John Thompson's system.

A source has confirmed to BI that "supposedly" the staff is finished at the Linebacker spot for the class. Fitzgerald's decision gives them some experience at a position that will need it in 2015.
