K/P Recaps Commitment

The Bobcats landed their 22nd commit, a kicker/punter, over the weekend. We were able to talk to him and find out why he chose Texas State.

Lumi Kaba is a 6’2” 180 kicker from Tyler Junior College, who will look to take the starting positions of all three kicking duties. This past season he completed 60 of 61 PAT’s and went 6 of 9 on his field goals, accumulating a total of 78 points for his junior college team.

With Texas State losing all everything specialist Will Johnson, and senior Jason Dann, Kaba believes that he can come in right away and make an impact for the team, he is just awaiting the coach’s decision on what kicking duties they want to give him first.

“I’m a place kicker, I can do both, I can punt, they don’t know if they want me doing all three, but I plan on it. I know for sure I am doing kick offs and field goals," said Kaba.

Lumi didn’t get many big offers, his only offer besides the Bobcats was Southern Mississippi, but he felt that Texas state was the right place for him. While on his visit not only did he check out the stadium and the facilities, he also took a visit to the McCoy Business school because as he plans to major in business. He liked it immediately, and said it just felt like the place for him to be.

“I didn’t get big offers, it was close to my house and they had a really good football team. I’m a business major, McCoy is really nice, the guy who showed us around is really cool and I think it's a good school

Kaba will be a 3 for 2, meaning he will have two years to play on the field and a red shirt year in case he needs it.
