D-Tackle Still On The Edge

It wasn't until fall camp that Texas State learned this D-Tackle commit from 2014 was not going to qualify. He hasn't stopped working and San Marcos is still a possible landing spot.

Steven Eddings was the surprise of Texas State's 2014 signing class, as the Bobcats were able to lure in the 6'4" 285lb D-Tackle. Through the rest of the spring and summer, Eddings would do what he could in the classroom to be eligible, but fell short in the end.

That hasn't stopped him from trying to reach the D1 ranks, and as matter a fact, Texas State is still very active in recruiting him.

"Me and Coach Tatum are really staying in close contact. They're really looking out for me and want me to have a bright future. We've been speaking once a week back and forth," said Eddings.

Steven sat out this fall at Jones County JC (MS), using his red shirt year to focus on his academics and get right in the classroom. He took four classes and is expecting grades that will finally put him where he needs to be in order to qualify.

"I really got a great chance, my grades are top notch. I get my final grades this week. I'm considering myself a Texas State commit, that's where I want to be at. They found me for a reason and that's where I want to be at," said Eddings.

He's very thankful to Head Coach Dennis Franchione and his staff for not giving up on him as they've made it very clear that if he has the grades, he's got a spot in the 2015 class.

Size wise, Steven is still right at 6'4" 287lbs, and if he clears, would have 2 years left to play on the field.

In a few days, Eddings will know whether he'll be headed to San Marcos on scholarship or not. Worst case scenario, if he does not qualify, he hasn't ruled out the chance of still enrolling at Texas State as a student.

"You always gotta have a plan B, my plan B was really if I didn't come up with the grades, I could possibly enroll as a student. I have family down there anyway in Dallas, Houston, and other parts of the state."

As soon as we get word on his academic standing, we'll be sure to do another update and see if gets added to TXST's 2015 class and mid-year signees.
