D-line Commit Talks

We recently caught up with this D-line commit who pledged to TXST back in August. Here is the latest on how his season went and his commitment.

Dustin McWhorter is 6'4 245-pound DL out of Graham HS, who has the size to play on the inside, but also the speed and length to play outside on the line. He is set to show up on campus in July, and is ready to compete for a spot in the trenches.

"I have heard a little from other schools, but I am solid on the Bobcats. I still talk to Coach Jason Johnson and Coach Hudson, at least every other week, all we talk about is how excited they are for me to get on campus," said McWhorter.

Graham finished the season 12-3 and made it into the semi-finals in the 4A division playoffs, before falling to Argyle HS 23-20. In 5 playoff games, McWhorter recorded 35 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks.

"We had a pretty good playoff run, and I heard about Texas State falling short of the post season. I am excited to start practicing and trying to earn a bowl game for the Bobcats," said McWhorter.

McWhorter has all of the tools to be a solid contributor early on for Texas State, but will have to compete against the returning players and 4 other incoming freshman at his position. His versatility is his biggest advantage, and will serve him well in DC John Thompson's multiple schemes.

His play on the field earned him mulitple awards: District Lineman of the Year, Area Defensive Player of the Year, and AP Honorable Mention All State 4A.
