TXST Falls 40-36

In a defensive game, the Bobcats gave up a late lead and fell to 1-1 in Sun Belt play. We have our recap of Saturday nights game.

In what seemed a defensive stalemate the entire game, Texas State lead 33-30 with five minutes to go in the contest. After a couple of unforced turnovers and poor free throw shooting down the stretch, the Bobcats would surrender a 10-3 run to end the game, and fall to Georgia Southern, 40-36.

Texas State would finish shooting 27% from the field, while holding the Eagles to 30%. After leading the rebound battle 15 to 9 in the first half, the Bobcats would get out rebounded 24 to 16 in the second half.

Emani Gant (Jr.) would put together a 10 point six rebound outing, and did what he could to keep the Bobcats in the game near the end. Wes Davis (Sr.) would chip in 7 points and 4 rebounds. Davis played tremendous defense to lock down Jelani Hewitt, who averages over 20 points per game to one for eight from the field.

The Bobcats controlled the first half, with a 17-4 lead with five minutes to go. Georgia Southern would respond with a 16-4 run cutting the lead to 21-20 at the half. D.J. Brown would lead all scorers with eight points in the first half coming off of two big three pointers.

After Saturday's loss Texas State falls to 7-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference. The Bobcats will continue their tough three game road conference start at conference favorite Georgia State on Monday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
