NFL Hopefuls

All 32 NFL teams have been down to San Marcos to inquire about three Seniors for Texas State. We have our update on the prospects of Bobcats trying to make it to the next level.

DB Craig Mager

5'11 196-pounds, with a previously recorded 4.56 forty time. Mager has the physical tools to play at the next level. He is the only Bobcat to be invited to the 2015 NFL combine and is rated as the 27th best cornerback out of 215 entering this years draft by nfldrafscout.com . Mager is currently projected to be a seventh round draft choice and will participate in the East-West Shrine Game to try and raise his stock.

What scouts like about him: Mager has good size, strength, and surprising quickness. He is an above average tackler for his position, and does a really nice job in outside contain. He is also a player who can contribute in special teams and is a four year starter. Scouts love a prospect who has plenty of playing experience.

MLB David Mayo

Mayo is listed at 6'2 228-pounds, with a best forty time of 4.72 and is rated as the 15th ILB out of 153 entering the 2015 draft by nfldraftscout.com. He is currently projected to also be at best a seventh round draft choice and will participate in the College Gridiron Showcase on January 31st to see if he catches the eyes of any NFL teams.

What scouts like about him: He has good physical tools, plays sideline to sideline, and is a strong tackler once he gets his hands on the ball carrier. Mayo is good at shedding blockers, tracking in pursuit, while also showing solid ability to drop back in coverage. Chances are if he was coming from a P5 school, he most likely would have a much higher draft stock. With a solid pro day and favorable measurements, Mayo has a good chance to make it onto an NFL roster.

OLB Mike Orakpo

Listed at 6'1 226-pounds and before his injury posted his best forty time at 4.48. He is rated as the 22nd best OLB prospect out of 240 at his position and like Mager and Mayo, is also projected to go in the seventh round by nfldrafscout.com.

What scouts like about him: He has the physical tools for the next level, baring no damage from his injury. Orakpo spoke with NFLdraftdiamonds.com and this is what he had to say about which scouts that have already contacted him and what they had to say.

"Panthers, Cowboys, Browns, Falcons, 49ers, Texans, Lions…. I’ve been told I can play Inside Linebacker in a 3-4 and Weakside Backer in a 4-3 Scheme," said Orakpo.

All three prospects will have their pro-days at Texas State, but we are still trying to confirm the dates. We will keep everyone posted with the latest.
