OT Commit Taking Official

This Texas State commit is 1 of 3 O-linemen committed to the Bobcats. He's taking his official visit to San Marcos this weekend and our staff caught up with him for an update.

Jacob Rowland has wrapped up his senior season with quite an impressive resume. His team may have only won 5 games, but they were still able to make it to the first round of playoffs.

“We went 5-6, got knocked out in the first round by Liberty Allen. They went four rounds deep and lost too Argyle by 4 points, so they were pretty good,” said Rowland.

During his senior campaign, Rowland finished with 84 pancakes, no sacks allowed, and graded out at a 90% average overall for the season. He also finished 2nd team all-district, and AP Honorable Mention All-State.

Now that football season is over, Rowland is moving on to track. He's been to regionals the last two years for shot put and discuss, he came up a little shy of making state for shot put last season, he did however win district for shot put.

“Right now I am hitting the weights hard, and doing some running. I start track in about two weeks, I am hoping to make state this year for shot put, I missed it last year by one or two slots,” said Rowland.

As for his next chapter in football at Texas State, he’s ready to get going and help the team out anyway he can, whether he gets the chance to play right away or red shirt.

“As far as playing, the coaches told me if I show up ready to play then I will get a chance to play or I might get red shirted. I don’t know exactly yet,” said Rowland.

Whether Rowland gets to play right away or not, Texas State is getting a big guy. He is currently listed at 6’4.5", weighing in at 290lbs a few months before fall camp starts.

“My goal my freshmen year is to make the traveling team. They have a great O-line and I know they have been together for a couple years now,” said Rowland.
