Another Tough Loss, 66-55

Texas State loses another close conference game on the road. With key players in foul trouble and a scoreless drought late, the Bobcats would stumble. We have the recap of Monday's game.

A field goal drought of more than 3 minutes to close the game and poor foul shooting would be the reason for the Bobcats coming up on the wrong side of another close conference road game, falling to UTA, 66-55.

The Bobcats would lead late on a pair of free throws by senior guard Wes Davis, 53-52 with 3:18 to go in the game, but wouldn't get another bucket except 2 FT's by Emani Gant (Jr.). The Mavs would close the contest on a 14-2 run, pulling away for the win.

Texas State would shoot just 53 percent from the stripe, including some late misses by Emani Gant (Jr.) that could have made it a tighter contest down the stretch. Gant would end the game 5 for 10 from the line. He would lead the scoring column for Texas State with 13 points while adding seven rebounds. Off the bench, Jamarcus Weatherspoon (Jr.)would provide a spark, piling up 10 rebounds while scoring eight points of his own.

With two of the Bobcats starters, Gant and Wes Davis, acquiring their fourth personal fouls about midway through the second half, they would be be forced to sit for more than the Head Coach Danny Kaspar would have liked. Without Gant to patrol the paint and control the boards, Texas State would end the game giving up 30 points down low, while only scoring 12 all night long.

In the first half the Bobcats would keep it close as they went into the locker room trailing 30-28 after an Ethan Montalvo (Jr.) three at the buzzer. Gant would lead TXST at the half with six points. The Bobcats would shoot much better in the 1st frame from the charity stripe, going 10 for 12 from the line.

The Bobcats fall to 4-4 in conference play and 10-7 on the season after dropping three out of their last four games. Texas State will have a chance to even up the season series against Georgia Southern in San Marcos on Thursday. Tip-off set for 7:30 pm.
