Final Recruiting Weekend

The last recruiting weekend for the 2015 class is now upon us. We have at least two confirmed visitors and a former Big XII commit is still on the recruiting radar.

On Friday, Texas State will be hosting a small group of visitors in the final recruiting weekend of the 2015 recruiting cycle.

Running back commit Nick Bingham (El Paso Franklin) and defensive tackle prospect Javier Edwards (Aldine Davis) have both been confirmed and will be in San Marcos. Bingham is a long time commit going back to the end of June who is currently rated a 2 Star prospect by Scout.com's National Recruiting Analysts. He is physically ready to compete for PT later this summer/fall and the staff has told him to be ready to see the field.

As for Edwards, the 6'3" 325lb d-tackle is an academic risk who may not qualify and has scared off a majority of P5 schools because of his academic standing. BobcatIllustrated was able to confirm earlier in the week that the class was full. However, the departure of defensive back Johnny Durham to Kansas State has opened up a spot and possibly two could come open if Malik Manciel does decommit as well.

Edwards is without a doubt physically is a P5 talent, but this late in the game things are too uncertain to think that he will be a qualifier. There's now a spot and if the staff feels that Edwards has an outside shot of qualifying, he's the type of recruit that you can take a chance on.

In developing news from Thursday, one time Texas commit Keivon Ramsey has reached out to the Texas State staff to gauge interest and by mid-day we were able to confirm that the Texas State Staff is more than interested in the former Judson Rocket. Ramsey is a 6'1" 165lb DB who could potentially get a serious look from the staff, especially now with the de-commitment of a DB. It's a developing situation that we'll have our eyes on for sure.

Ramsey is currently at a home/private learning academy in the Greater San Antonio area and he's still close enough to San Marcos where if wanted, he could make the 30 minute drive up I-35 and be on campus in a half an hour.

Finally, we were able to confirm that the staff does have other options to weigh in the wake of losing Johnny Durham and if it were to lose anyone else as well. No names were confirmed, but we'll be keeping track of things for the entire weekend as Texas State tries to close by hanging onto it's commits and potentially snagging 1 or 2 last minute surprises.
