Big Time D-Tackle Commit

Texas State only hosted 2 visitors on the final recruiting weekend of the 2015 cycle. One of them was a target going in and late Sunday night, Bobcatillustrated confirmed that he decided to commit.

Before his official visit, Javier Edwards had already told BobcatIllustrated that Texas State was one of his top choices and he really liked how the Coaching Staff had stuck by him and showed him a lot of love in his efforts to get his grades right and become a full qualifier.

After wrapping up his visit, going home and thinking it over with family and friends, he didn't need to wait any longer, Edwards let Head Coach Dennis Franchione know that he was going to commit to Texas State and be the 23rd pledge of the class.

Edwards is a huge land for Texas State, putting the pun aside, but he is clear P5 talent with schools such as Mississippi, Mississippi State, Kansas State, Purdue, and others all either offering or showing strong interest in him down the stretch.

The Texas State Coaching Staff knows that Edwards still has work to do in the classroom in making sure he gets a qualifying test score, but over the last few months he's showed a new desire and motivation to get his academics in order so he can play D1 ball.

On the field, he is a flat out beast. The Aldine Davis product already has a D1 caliber frame. He constantly sees double teams and more times than not destroys them. He is a true run stuffing defensive tackle that will clog and anchor the entire center of the line. He does show some agility for a big man and uses his hands well to shed his blockers in order to penetrate into the backfield and also get after the QB. Some off season strength and conditioning building his stamina and putting on some good weight could make Javier a terror for opposing O-lineman.

If the grades are there, Edwards could very well find himself getting snaps this fall battling for PT in a defensive tackle rotation that could use the depth.

Talk about Edwards commitment in the 'Cats Den Insider forum.
