Bobcats Beat Arkansas St 70-60

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team moved up to the No. 7 spot in the Sun Belt standings with a 70-60 win over Arkansas State. The Bobcats are now 7-11 in the league and own the tiebreaker over South Alabama who is No. 8, by virtue of sweeping the season series.

Wes Davis improved his standing on the all-time Texas State leaderboard in steals with two in the first five minutes, as the Bobcats raced out to a 17-3 lead. Kavin Gilder-Tilbury, fresh off his 13-point performance in the win over Troy on Thursday hit a straight away three, giving him five points during the opening run.

Arkansas State went on an 11-2 run to close the gap, but the Bobcats responded by stretching the lead from five back out to 13. Davis had two more steals during the run and finished the first half with four. Tilbury was fouled on a three-pointer right before the break, of which he made two free throws. Texas State held a 34-23 advantage at the break.

Ethan Montalvo came out of halftime hot, hitting two three-pointers in the first three possessions as the Bobcats extended their lead to 42-26 just three minutes into the second half.

Arkansas State cut into the Bobcat lead, making it just 54-46 with six minutes to go before D.J. Brown hit his first three of the game to extend the lead back to 57-46. Texas State hit six threes as a team for the game.

Gilder-Tilbury led the Bobcats with 19 points, just one off his career-high of 20. He was 5-of-8 from the field, 2-of-3 from three-point range and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. The Bobcats shot 48.0 percent as a team (24-of-50), marking the first time all season the team has shot 48 percent or better in Sun Belt Conference play.
