SBC Tourney Time
Early on in conference play, Texas State opened eyes by starting out 4-2, but any built up excitement was quickly vanished by two separate skids of 5 and 4 games. The 'Cats (13-16) lost their last two games of the season and have essentially backed into the conference tournament as the #8 seed and will take on #5 Texas-Arlington (16-14) in their 1st round opening match-up. During the regular season, the Mavs swept both games from the Bobcats, 70-61 and 66-55. Texas State will look to breakthrough on it's third time facing UTA. The key will be for the 'Cats defense to stifle UTA's scoring trio of Lonnie McClanahan (PG), Johnny Hill (SG), and Greg Gainey (SF). Offensively, two things must happen for the Bobcats to move on: Other scorers step up besides Gant and consistent 3-point shooting. Ethan Montalvo, Kavin Gilder-Tilbury and Wes Davis must connect from deep. Texas State tips off at 5 p.m. from Lakefront Arena in New Orleans. If the 'Cats survive and advance, they would earn the right to face the #4 Louisiana Lafayette Ragin' Cajun's in the next round and continue their up-hill climb.
