Bowie Athlete Has 3
Speed, athleticism, and agility are synonymous with targeting a play-maker for the next level. Anthony Hawkins of Bowie High School is just that. He starred for the Volunteers this past season as a junior and found the end zone 16 times in route to a 2nd Team All District 4-6A selection. Because of his play, he's netted three offers in the early going, Arkansas State, SMU, and Texas State have all stepped up and have an offer on the table. Brad Bedell, Texas State's O-line Coach is responsible for his recruitment and let him know about his offer. "I found out maybe 2-3 weeks ago, and it was Coach Bedell, the O-line coach. He talked to another one of our players and he saw my highlights, he liked what he saw and offered me," said Hawkins. Anthony wasn't able to attend TXST's February Junior Day, but getting down to San Marcos for the April 4th Spring Game is a possibility. "He's told me a couple of times that he wants me to come down. He knew that I couldn't make it to the Junior Day because of weather conditions, it was iced over and we weren't able to get down there. He really wants me to come down for the spring game. He's telling me to stay in shape, stay lifting, and running. He's always talking about speed kills," said Hawkins. The Bobcat program isn't a stranger either, during his sophomore year, Hawkins did have a coach who attended and graduated from Texas State. Plus, he's interested in pursuing a degree in journalism. He's eager to see what the university offers for both on and off the field. Hawkins currently stands in at 5'11" 185lbs and has timed at a 4.52. Although the staff has not specifically told him about a position, look for him to be recruited as a Slot WR or All-Purpose Running Back. He lines up all over the field, in the slot, out wide, in the backfield, and only needs the smallest amount of space to start turning heads. Hawkins will continue with his recruiting process and does not have any time-line for a decision yet.
