Pro Day Recap
With nearly two dozen former Bobcat and ex-college football players performing for scouts, Bobcatillustrated was able to learn of some of those who impressed and had good workouts. Here are some notes: --Running Back Terrence franks drew plenty of attention and opened the eyes of on lookers. He stood in at 5'10", right around 200lbs, and what drew most attention was his impressive 4.4 40 time. --Arguably the best workout of the day went to place kicker Will Johnson. He drilled a 60 yard field goal in a hurry up situation. Scouts simulated a hurry up scenario with Johnson coming in from the sideline on a running clock, and only 0:13 seconds to snap the ball and get the kick off. He nailed it, causing all scouts on hand to stop and take notice. Johnson had an overall impressive day with his leg strength and accuracy. His performance came too many of the on hand scouts as a surprise. Those who were evaluating on Monday, did not stay for the kicking part of the NFL combine, so almost all in attendance were seeing Johnson kick for the first time. -- Linebacker David Mayo also performed well in position drills. His best highlight was defending a wheel route. As he remained stride for stride with the intended receiver, at the last second he lunged, dove, and made a nice play to grab the INT. --Cornerback Craig Mager, who drastically rose his stock at the combine, did not do strength and speed drills, but only a position workout. Because of his combine performance, Mager has gone from a possible 6th, 7th round pick, or priority undrafted free agent, to now hearing he could go as high as the 4th round in next months draft. The only teams not in attendance were the Cowboys, Lions, Bears, Jets, Bengals, Bills, Dolphins, Steelers, and Broncos. A source did confirm to BI, that those organizations not in attendance had already seen most of the players testing.
