Commit Recap: #4

Just two months into the new recruiting cycle and Texas State has picked up it's fourth commitment. We caught up with the DB pledge and why he chose the 'Cats.

Two weeks ago in an update, Cederick Pickrom (C.J.) hinted that he was leaning towards committing to Texas State. A week went by and after some time to think it over, he didn't want to wait anymore and decided to let the coaching staff know that he was committing last Saturday.

"I talked it over with my family. I called Coach Brad Franchione and I'm talking on the phone with him. I was about to tell him, he gave me Head Coach Fran's number and I told him myself. Then he passed the phone around after that," said Pickrom.

C.J. was in San Marcos for Junior day in February and one of his school coaches has ties to the Bobcats. The high compliments from his coach and with what he saw on his visit, he felt it was the right time to make a decision.

Texas State is still his only offer, with UTSA and Nevada still being in contact for the 6'0" 178lb defensive back.

The staff has told C.J. that they envision him at the free safety spot, with the option to either play in the box or drop back into coverage when in their base 4-2-5 scheme.

As for the recruiting process, Pickrom doesn't necessarily considers himself finished with the process. On the contrary, he lists himself as a "Soft" commit to the 'Cats and is keeping the door open.

"I'd say it's more of insurance right now. I'm not going to take off Texas State for a smaller school, but say a big school comes, like a Florida State or something like that, then I'd have to reconsider Texas State."

Talk about Pickrom's commitment in the Cats Den Insider forum.
