Thomas Likes TXST

Many will tell you that in East Texas, you'll find the best brand of high school football. Just off of I-20 before Lindale and Tyler, you'll find Van High School and the Texas State staff has targeted this star back.

Offers haven't stopped flying out, and one of the latest to pick one up is Van's Aphonso Thomas. The Texas State staff offered Thomas last Wednesday, and his head coach let him know to keep an open ear for what could be really good news.

"My coach told me that they were going to call me, I was expecting a call from them, so I guess I kind of knew that they were going to offer me," said Thomas. "He was telling me about Texas State's past and their business school. I was really happy that they offered me and they're definitely in the equation."

The 'Cats are one of his four offers and the very next day after Texas State extended, Nebraska also decided to join the race and offer. Joining Kansas, and Colorado State as well.

He's coming off of a junior year in which he ran for 934 yards and found the end zone 12 times, on just 106 carries. Every time he touched the ball he averaged nearly 9 yards a carry. The running back measured in at 5'10" 180lbs and turned in a 4.71 at a recent East Texas Combine this past weekend. Thomas does report clocking as fast as a 4.5 flat previously in his 40 time.

With recruiting just ramping up for him, Aphonso still has no set plans for visits, but he could see himself taking an unofficial visit to take in the sights and sounds of San Marcos. Those visits will be key as he's hoping to have a decision by the end of summer so he can focus on his upcoming senior year.
