Bobcats Offer MacArthur RB

Texas State continues to try building depth in their backfield as they offered another in-state running back last week.

With Rob Lowe and Chris Nutall entering their senior season and Terrance Franks on his way to the NFL, the Bobcats depth at running back after this season is concerning. This issue isn’t going unnoticed by the Bobcats coaching staff as they have offered yet another running back from the lone star state, Artiss Henderson out of MacaAthur high school.

The Bobcats seem to be tossing their hat in the ring at the right time with Henderson as he is only fielding two other offers thus far, one from Army and one from Navy. When asked if the military route is a path he wants to take, Henderson waffled with his answer before saying, “Yeah, I mean, it would teach me a lot about discipline and I would be set for life.

Henderson is waiting to talk to Texas State in person before he ranks his three offers. He has talked to Army and Navy in person and plans on taking a visit to San Marcos over the summer, “(Texas State) is definitely up there on my list, especially after I heard about all those guys going to the NFL. I’ve also had a lot of family go there and they loved it,” said Henderson.

He has also garnered interest from Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Nevada, Utah State, Oregon State and Iowa, but hasn’t received an offer from those schools. At 5’10”, 200 lbs, Henderson said he recently clocked a 4.5 forty-time but he hopes he can get that number down. Last season, he gained 951 yards on the ground and accounted for 27 touchdowns, 25 rushing, 1 receiving and 1 passing.

“I would describe myself as a power back but also an elusive back,” said Henderson. “I’m the type that will make you miss but if you think I’m going to juke, that’s when I run you over, get the extra yard. I’m not a guy who likes to go down easy. I’ve got break-away speed and I’ve got hands.”

While others list instant playing time or winning to be a criteria for picking a program, camaraderie seems to be the main attribute that Henderson is searching for, “One of the first things I’m looking for is everyone being close. I want everyone to have a good relationship. Having fun but also getting down to business when its time.”

There isn’t a date planned for Henderson to make a visit to TXST but he wants to come down in the next couple months before next season starts. We will keep you posted on any updates on Artiss Henderson.
