D-End Gets #9

At 6'4.5" 215lbs, and good speed, this defensive end prospect has seen his recruiting take off this spring. Texas State recently extended and we caught up with him for an update.

Over the spring the Texas State Staff had been in contact with Mesquite Horn product Gary Overshown. He's a rangy D-End who is now a Bobcat target after picking up an offer last week.

"The coaches told me to keep them in mind, but it caught me by surprise. I didn’t even know they was looking at me," said Overshown.

Texas State's offer now gives Overshown a total of 9 offers. Most notably, Minnesota, Colorado State, Nevada, Louisiana (ULL), and Tulsa join the Bobcats in their pursuit.

Overshown's frame will allow for him to bulk up on the next level, and in the right weight program adding 15-20lbs of good weight should be easy. This spring he's also ran a verified 40 time of 4.68, so for a defensive end he can get out in space and use that quickness to come off the edge.

Two good notes for the Bobcats are that he's already discussing a visit later this summer to San Marcos.

"I did talk to Coach Hudson about coming down there to visit when I can, to show me around. I'm open to taking the campus in, probably before the season. I don’t want to be distracted for my senior season. I would like to have the majority of my recruiting done before going into my senior year," said Overshown.

Along with talks about a visit, Texas State's recent and future exposure on national television has also caught his eye.

"It’s (Texas State) a program that has my attention, I saw two of their games on TV, and then I saw where they’ll be playing Florida State on national television again," said Overshown.

As a junior for Horn HS, he had 8 sacks, 44 tkls, and 1 FF. For his performance he was selected as a 1st Team All District 10-6A performer.
