TXST After Taylor

Last recruiting cycle Texas State landed a bruiser at running back in Nick Bingham. This new RB target is even bigger, checking in at 6'1" and nearly 210lbs. Only Bobcatillustrated has the scoop...

When it comes to running backs, you typically see a compact type back coming out of the Texas State backfield. Someone who stands around 5'9"-5'10", and around 210lbs. A description that fits Robert Lowe, Terrence Franks, and Chris Nutall. Tim Gay tipped the scales at a reported 230lbs, which at times he looked heavier than his listed weight. Over the last few days, Texas State has decided to target a bigger type of RB, and one of them is Patrick Taylor of Atascocita High School.

At 6'1" and 208lbs, Taylor has the frame to be an OLB, and has played the position in high school, but the Bobcats are recruiting him as a running back. Co-OC and Running Backs Coach Jeff Conway is the lead on his recruitment.

"Coach Conway said he really liked what I did when he came out to practice. He said I'm a leader on the field, he likes what I bring to the table," said Taylor.

When the staff reached out and followed suit with an offer, Taylor was caught off guard and didn't really know that he was a TXST target.

"I actually really wasn't. Me and Coach Conway hadn't been in contact. He told me that he shot me a DM on twitter, then he told me to give him a call and he offered," said Taylor.

Along with impressive size for someone who can carry the rock, he was timed earlier this week on his 40 yard dash, running a 4.47 hand held 40 time.

As a junior he rushed for 750 yards on 108 carries and 9 TD's for the Eagles. That's led to a total of five offers already, just getting ready to head into summer. Texas State, Colorado State, Nevada, Louisiana (ULL), and Nicholls State have all extended.

Patrick has not been on the TXST campus, but the staff has already invited him to a satellite camp in the Houston area in order to meet the coaches and other Texas State targets. Taylor tells us that he's definitely going to try and be there.

At the moment, he doesn't claim any favorites of his five offers and has no deadline for making a decision.
