Another QB Target

Any college coach will tell you, it's never a bad thing to have too much talent at any one position. With 2 QB commits already in the fold for the '16 class, TXST is still targeting this Dual Threat QB, and we have an update.

When Texas State picked up two quarterback commits early on in the recruiting cycle, most, including us, thought that QB was done with for this class. After speaking with Paul Watson of Langham Creek, lets hold that thought for now.

"They offered after the junior day a couple of months ago. I went up there a Thursday before spring break, and Coach Fran pulled me into his office and reiterated the offer," said Watson. "The offer I was expecting it, they showed a lot of interest in me, I took it very seriously. The next two weeks after is when the other QB’s were offered and committed."

For the moment Texas State is his only offer, but he is hearing from UTSA, Utah, South Dakota and the Citadel. He wasn't able to make any of TXST's camps this go around, but does plan on making it to one in July. Utah of the PAC-12 is also holding a satellite camp near the Houston area, close enough for Watson to also attend.

Heading into summer, Watson will continue to see what options he has, and would like to wrap things up before his senior season if he can. Although the 'Cats already have two QB's in the mix, the coaches are continuing to let him know that they want him, and specifically at QB.

"They want me strictly for QB, they don’t want me playing anything else but QB. They came to my school a couple of weeks ago, they told my coach a few weeks ago they still want me," said Watson.

The 6'1" 185lb QB also reports sub 4.6 speed, which by definition makes him a Dual Threat. Watson will be the first to tell you he can run, but only when he has to. He can be either style of QB, a pocket passer, or a dual threat who can get you yards with his feet.

As a junior he amassed roughly 2700 yards & 25 TD’s all through the air. Linebackers Coach Brad Franchione is the lead recruiter for Watson.
