Bobcats In DB's Top 5

Even though he has eleven offers, the Bobcats are still in this Katy HS DB's top five. We caught up with the three-star DB to find out what his plans are.

There has been a lot of interest recently for Travis Whillock, a 6’1”, 185-lbs safety out of Katy HS. With a reported forty-time of 4.46, that combination of size and speed turned a lot of heads but the attention didn’t come right away.

"It started off pretty slow, I didn’t have any offers for a while,” said Whillock. “But it picked up at the end of the spring and I got a lot of new offers. I'm very thankful for that."

No doubt, it picked up. Whillock now holds offers from Texas State, Kansas, Northwestern, Tulane, Boston College, Utah State, Wisconsin, Houston, Louisiana-Lafayette, Iowa State and Nevada. He also said Baylor has interest in him; they stay in contact but have yet to offer.

Even with ten other schools on his list of offers, Whillock was thrilled to receive one from the Bobcats. Enough so that they ended up on his top five, "The day after our spring game, coach (Brad) Franchione came down to my school and offered me there,” said Whillock. “It was great, I was excited. I have a top five and (TXST) is definitely in the mix.

Whillock’s top five are Houston, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Utah State and Texas State. He also said Boston College is just outside of his top five.

It’s a tough decision for Whillock but it’s one he has been preparing to make. He didn’t hesitate when asked what he wants in a school, "I want to go somewhere where I feel welcome. When you go somewhere, you want to be important to them. Academics is key too because, after football, you're going to have to do something. Football is going to eventually end. Whether its 15 years, 10 years or just five, you're going to need a degree. So that's one of the most important things. I also want them to be competitive at football. I've been blessed by playing for such a great program and I hope I can take that to wherever I go."

He said he hopes to have a decision made by July but he wants to make a few more visits, including San Marcos, before he announces his commitment.

Along with being rated as a 3-Star prospect, Whillock is ranked as the 64st best DB in the nation and 11th ranked safety in the State of Texas by National Recruiting Analysts.
