OL Has TXST #1
At one of their DFW satellite camps, Kody Russey showed up and did his thing. He actually put on weight, bulked up to 278lbs and let the Texas State staff see what he had. The 6'3" interior O-lineman was pulled aside after camp by O-line Coach Brad Bedell, and he let him know that he had an offer. Russey had been in contact with the Bobcat staff and he knew that if he gave a good performance, an offer could come. "They pulled me aside after camp. It was Coach Bedell and I kind of knew about the offer. He wanted to make sure I could gain weight and I kind of new I had a good chance. I was sort of expecting it," said Russey. He lines up for Burleson High School and is getting ready for his senior year, where he is expected not to play offensive line. Russey has made the switch to defensive tackle, and he did so earlier this spring. As a junior he showed versatility in playing all three spots on the O-line, Tackle, Guard and Center. This will be his first time ever playing on the defensive side. Russey is liking his switch to the defensive side so far, but projecting to the next level, he just wants to see how things play out for which position he'll eventually line up at. Texas State likes him as a center, and possibly guard, but reassuringly he's being recruited to play on the O-line. Along with Texas State, he has three other offers: Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, and Central Oklahoma have all offered. With his current list of suitors, the Bobcats are his favorite and he's already got a visit planned to San Marcos for the second week of July. "Everything I heard about them (Texas State) has been good. I know they have the river and I've heard nothing but good stuff. I'm going to visit their campus on July 13th for an unofficial visit. Texas State is first, and Louisiana Tech would be my second. I'm not 100% sure, but if everything goes right I might commit right before two a days start in August." said Russey. He's already camped at SMU, and will also be camping at ULM and La. Tech later in July. With his proposed time-line for a possible decision coinciding really close to his visit with TXST, it leaves one to wonder if the 'Cats could be looking at their second offensive line commit of the class.
