Three weeks ago, Strake Jesuit College Prep defensive lineman John Lilly received an offer from Texas State, his first D-1 offer. Since then,he has been a busy a guy but he found time to weigh his options and decide to accept that offer the Bobcats gave him in early June. "Everything just felt right,” said Lilly. “I love the campus, I love the coaches and I love the school. Once I went down there and met all the coaches, that put (TXST) over the top. They are very enthusiastic. They care about the kids and the program. They actually care about the kids they are recruiting, when other schools are like 'Glad you are here, take a seat.' I love the facilities. Some of the schools I've talked to they don't really support their football program but you can tell that is not the case at Texas State. I felt the school really backs the football team." With interest from Duke, Kansas, New Mexico, Rice, Army and Navy, Lilly sat down with family, close friends and his coaches before making his decision. His father, who was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Texas Guard and an Army Tank Commander that served in combat, wants his son to follow in his footsteps, but he supports his son’s decision. “I definitely think there was part of him that hoped I would end up at Navy but he is very excited with my decision and supports it fully,” said Lilly. Lilly is very active in his church and community. He recently returned from a mission trip to Jamaica for his church, "I went on a mission trip to Jamaica were we spent six days working and two days resting. The days that we worked we would go to their preschools and elementary schools and we would teach the kids Vocation Bible School. We'd teach them Bible stories and we'd color a picture of a story or we would do crafts. Then we would spend the afternoon building projects. We built a fence so that the preschool kids wouldn't wonder. I thought about (TXST offer) a lot while I was down there. After thinking about it, I pretty much knew when I got back that Texas State was the right place." Lilly is the 14th commit of the cycle and 1st D-lineman of the group.
